This award winner leaves little doubt as to why it won Best of Class of Appellation. This is a true berry bomb! From the bottle, its dark garnet color impresses. It starts with a highly expressive aroma of fleshy dark fruit… gobs of blackberry and plum fill the mouth and finishes with dates, tobacco, sage, cinnamon and a whole lotta “wow that’s good”!
2016 was a stellar growing year in Amador and it shows in the bottle. As many of you know, Primitivo is a close relative of Zinfandel but you wouldn’t know it because of this particular wine’s distinctive traits… there is no denying that this is classic Helwig “Prim”. Barrels consisted of 10% new Hungarian, 10% new American and 5% new French with the balance being neutral.
