Frequently Asked Questions

Can I bring my kids?  Sadly, we are no longer allowing minors to accompany parents. The property is limited to guests 21 and over due to county restrictions regarding the number of people we are allowed to serve.  We apologize for any inconvenience this might cause.

Can I bring a picnic?  Unfortunately, Helwig Winery no longer allows outside food during regular business hours. We are sorry to have to make this policy change. Thank you for your understanding. Our Kitchen serves lunch Thursday through Monday from 11:00 to 4:00 (closing time subject to change on certain days with weddings or private events)

Does Uber and Lyft service Amador County? Although you can usually find a driver to bring you here, it is EXTREMELY difficult to find a ride back.  Please keep this in mind and make an alternate plan for returning home.

Is Helwig Winery dog friendly?  Dogs are welcome in the tasting room and picnic pavilion during regular business hours as long as they keep their owner on a leash! Please make sure to bring doggy bags with you to clean up after your pets. Keep in mind that dogs are not allowed in any of the other buildings, the cave, or at any of our musical events unless they are a legitimate service dog that is needed for the owner’s safety.

Can I bring my DroneDrones can only be used by making prior arrangements with management and by signing a Liability Waiver. Contact our office, Monday through Friday during regular business hours (209) 245-5200 ext. 0.

Are those posted rattlesnake signs just to be funny?  NO, rattlesnakes are not a joke!  Please be safe by staying on official paths and walkways where snakes are more visible. Snakes live amongst grass, bushes and rocks, so please, for your safety, keep out of gardens, rock cropping’s, and the vineyard.

Can I bring alcoholic beverages to Helwig?  Because we are a bonded winery, it is a law…NO outside alcohol (this includes other brands of wine, beer, and liquor) can be consumed on our property (including parking lot!) during business hours. This includes all of our evening musical events.

Is marijuana legal to consume on Helwig property?  We are a “drug free” property in accordance with California state law.

Just so you know…. Helwig Winery is not responsible for lost/stolen items. Please be aware that for security purposes our property is under video surveillance.  We are not nosey, we are protective!

Do you have further questions?  You are welcome to call our office, Monday through Friday during regular business hours (209) 245-5200 ext. 0, for more information.
